Australia is the world’s fourth largest exporter of wine and makes significant contributions to our economy through production, employment, export and tourism at vineyards throughout our country.
Although there are more than 60 designated wine regions with wine produced in every state, the cooler geography of South Australia represents nearly half (48%) of Australia's wine production with Shiraz, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon being the most popular wine varieties.
Changes in domestic & export wine preferences, in addition to global economic and climate changes, are resulting in a move away from our traditional varieties and production levels to what could become a new range of Australia favourites.
This useful infographic gives you an overview of emerging trends and changes in harvesting and production taking place in the Australian wine industry & perhaps what we all may be drinking in the future.
