Sky Dive Mission Beach

Take the plunge with Sky Dive Mission Beach HQ. Dunk Island

For some exceptional fishing opportunities, you can’t go past Dunk Island. This tropical rainforest island covers about 1000 hectares, and is a beautiful destination rainforest walk, relaxing, and swimming with turtles and rays over colourful corals. The island is also home to more than 90 bird species, as well as a number of mammals, reptiles and the electric blue Ulysses butterfly.

Tully River

The Tully River offers some of Australia’s best white water rafting, with Raging Thunder Adventures operating tours down the rapids. When not pelting paddlers with rough but exciting waves, the river also offers spectacular scenery, from giant boulders to clear pools to virgin rainforest. The peace between rapids can also be enjoyed by jumping overboard for a swim.

Mamu Tropical Skywalk

Get up higher and explore the rainforest from the canopy. The Mamu Tropical Skywalk is a 350m elevated walkway that runs from the rainforest ground floor to 15m high in the lush tropical rainforest. Enjoy getting up close and personal with the unique foliage and its inhabitants, and take in stunning views of this World Heritage landscape. The walkway also features a 37m high observation tower with two viewing decks.


Summertime in Mission Beach means thunderous tropical downpours that can last all night. The day temperatures over these months also reach an average of 33 degrees Celsius, ensuring days are typically spent by the beach. Winter is considered the High Season, and generally offers clear blue skies, sunshine, and day time temperatures peaking at around 25-27 degrees Celsius.

Getting to Mission Beach

Located in Tropical North Queensland, Mission Beach is about 139km south of Cairns and 235km north of Townsville.

By car

Take National Highway A1 south from Cairns or north from Townsville, which will take about two hours and three hours respectively.

When to visit Mission Beach

Mission Beach is popular all year round, yet due to the tropical nature of the region, it is better suited to different needs at different times. Summertime is ideal for people who love tropical fruit, as beautiful fresh fruit is plentiful at this time. Spring is the best time to spy cassowary and other native wildlife, while winter is most popular with those wanting to enjoy rainforest walks, snorkelling and fishing.
