Suggested 8-Day Shoalhaven Itinerary

Day One

Sydney to Shoalhaven Heads – approx. 2 hours and 134km

Pick up Britz Frontier Motorhome in Sydney, Drive to Shoalhaven Heads Tourist Park. On the way you may like to stop in at the historic township of Berry for lunch before setting up on site at the park. After setting up you may enjoy a stroll along the riverside walk, go for an afternoon swim at Seven Mile Beach, before preparing a BBQ dinner on site.

Day Two

Kangaroo Valley

Options include day visits to Kangaroo Valley for kayaking, bushwalking or sightseeing. Or staying put and enjoying the coastal charm of Shoalhaven Heads, with its beach and river access great for fishing, swimming or surfing and then dinner at the Shoalhaven Heads Pub.

Kangaroo Valley is one of the few completely enclosed valleys in the world, with a vast escarpment encircling it and protecting its unique climate.

The drive up Cambewarra Mountain, through lush rainforest reveals glimpses of ancient landscape and vegetation. A stop at the lookout on top of Cambewarra Mountain for a cuppa or a milkshake is a must. The lookout provides a sweeping view of the Shoalhaven floodplain, looking north to the Illawarra, south east to Jervis Bay and west to Morton National Park.

For the more adventurous, a trip down the Kangaroo River in a kayak from Kangaroo Valley Tourist Park Kayak Hire is another worthwhile activity.

The historic village of Berry meanwhile, is well known for its many boutique and specialty shops, the Berry Sourdough Bakery and Café as well as the some of the best pub food on the Coast at the Berry Hotel.

Day Three

Shoalhaven Heads to Huskisson (approximately 40 minutes and 42 km).

After breakfast and a morning swim or walk along the beach or the riverfront it will be time to set out for your next destination -  Huskisson on the southern shores of Jervis Bay. As check in time is not until 2 o’clock you’ll have plenty of time to explore the Booderee National Park, just 10 mins south of Huskisson. Stop off for some picnic supplies in Nowra or Huskisson and enjoy one of the many secluded and pristine picnic and swimming spots that the park has to offer. Other half day activities in the national park include walking the many bush trails, whale watching from May to November and visiting the Botanic Gardens. There is an entry fee payable at the gate,  that goes towards maintaining the visitor infrastructure.

Day Four


Wake up to views across spectacular Jervis Bay then wander into Huskisson, just a 10 minute stroll away, for breakfast. Afterwards you may like to book a Whale Watch or Dolphin Watch cruise (subject to the season) on Jervis Bay. Marvel at the vastness of the bay, the views across to the honeycomb cliffs of Point Perpendicular and the white sands reflecting the numerous deserted beaches. Your afternoon can be spent relaxing on the beach, rock hopping the headlands, snorkelling or hiring a kayak or stand up paddle board.

Other activities in the Huskisson area include a visit to the Lady Denman Maritime Museum at Huskisson to learn about local maritime history. Discover the history of the Naval Fleet Air Arm in Australia at the museum at HMAS Albatross. Catch the ferry across to Myola (and back again) after a stroll along Callala Beach, Jervis Bay’s longest beach. Cycle or stroll from Jervis Bay to St Georges Basin.

Day Five

Huskisson to Ulladulla (approx. 50 minutes and 56km)

Today you’ll leave Huskisson for Ulladulla, your last destination on your week away. As check in is not until 2pm you have plenty of time to mosey down the highway, with a few detours on the way. Suggested detours include a stop of at the secluded headland village of Bendalong, where you can watch the large manta rays following the fisherman up to the boat ramp in hope of a feed of fish.

The historic village of Milton, 20 minutes south of Bendalong and 10 mins north of Ulladulla is ideal for a lunch stop and a wander through the unique and eclectic specialty and antique shops. By this time you’ll be ready to set up site at Ulladulla Headland Tourist Park. The park is just a short walk into town where you can pick up supplies for a BBQ dinner or wander into one of the cafés/restaurants on Wason Street for a night out.

Day Six/Day Seven


You may like to start the morning at Lobster Jack’s Beach, a secluded headland beach ideal for a morning swim or exploring the rock pools at low tide. For those who are a little more adventurous head out to Pigeon House Mountain and challenge yourself to walk to the top and take in the views of Southern Shoalhaven. 

If you are looking for a more relaxing time, take a stroll down to the harbour and a walk along the break wall, with a laid back lunch at the Fisherman’s Wharf Seafood Café & Restaurant. For those who hope to catch their own lunch, throw a line in off the northern break wall, and pass the time watching the fishing trawlers coming back from a day’s work.

Other activities of interest in Ulladulla area include a visit to the Warden Head Lighthouse and lookout to see if you can spot any of the listed whale species migrating north or heading home. Enjoy a day out cruising on Burrill Lake. Sample local and regional food and wine at Cupitt’s Winery or explore the Shoalhaven Coast Wine Trail. Enjoy a swim with the surfing Kangaroos of Pebbly Beach in the Murramarang National Park.

Day Eight

Ulladulla to Sydney (approx. 3 hours and 217 km)
