I enquired about obtaining a cabin for two nights for my family of 4 (2 adults, a toddler and a young baby) to attend a nearby wedding in January 2015 - a similar booking to that my sister already had made for herself and friends in August - asking if a cabin were available if we could be placed near my sister. I received an email advising that although my sister had been booked for 2 nights and the website states a 2 night minimum, I would need to book for 3 (there is a clause that longer bookings may be required for certain unspecified periods). I accepted the longer duration due to the lateness of my booking compared to my sister (who booked in August) however before I could make the phone call to place my booking and pay my deposit, my sister contacted me about an email she had received stating that due to the wedding we were attending and the Australia Day weekend, manager Sandi had added an extra day to her booking - at my sister's expense. When my sister called to complain, she was given the option to pay or cancel her booking (rudely I gather). I don't believe this practice is ethical considering my sister clearly has a booking confirmation with the dates and deposit paid. As a result we will not be staying with this business and I am reviewing as caution to others that apparently the managers feel at liberty to change booking conditions despite having sent confirmations, as this could place travellers in positions of difficulty.

Thank you for your feedback, it has been most helpful to highlight where we could introduce extra information when taking reservations, and target staff training to ensure this situation does not happen again. We do understand how deeply disappointed your whole family has felt about not being able to spend this Australia Day Long Weekend at Christies Beach Tourist Park, and wish to apologize again for any inconvenience that our minimum booking conditions have caused. This particular weekend that you wanted to visit is also a big celebration for us, with free musical entertainment and a sausage sizzle provided for our guests on the Sunday afternoon. Our Cabins are always in high demand as they look out over the beach and reef, are reasonably priced and located in an area well serviced by shops and facilities. Also because we embrace such high standards of presentation and cleanliness throughout all of the Cabins and Park surrounds. A reason why we have so many returning guests (over 55% of all our reservations) is because we do strive to offer great value and good service. We sincerely hope that there is an opportunity to welcome you to Christies Beach Tourist Park sometime in the future, to experience our friendly hospitality for yourself and enjoy a memorable stay.

These guys are horrible scam artists! In August I booked a cabin for 2 nights to attend a wedding in January, I only needed the cabin for a night, but was informed it is a minimum 2 night booking (which is supported by their website), the price was higher than listed on their website, but I paid it as I wanted to guarantee my accommodation. All was fine until my sister emailed them last night to enquire about also booking a cabin where she requested to book one next to mine, providing my name, and included a note that we were attending my mothers wedding. She was informed that it was a 3 day minimum, and I received an email (not even a phone call, an easily missed email!) that they now insisted I book for 3 nights instead of two, and they had booked me in for the 3rd night (at my expense), and pretended they were doing me a favour. I had entered a contract with them for 2 nights, they had told me over the phone that it was 2 nights, their website says it is 2 nights, and they didn't even have the courtesy to call me! I called them and they informed me that -it wasn't fair- that my sister had to book 3 nights, and how do you think she would feel if I only had to book 2 (like their ripping her off was my fault!), and that they were not going to honour the original booking unless I booked for 3 nights. Sandi, the owner, was incredibly unhelpful and rude. I had to cancel my booking, and now have to rush to find accommodation in the area, which was readily available 3 months ago when I booked, but is not anymore. If you book with these guys, they demand a 50% upfront, but their word is worth nothing. DO NOT STAY HERE.

We were a little disappointed that there were no stove tops in the camp kitchen. Luckily we had a butane cooker in our own camp and were able to loan it to a couple who was wanting to cook a meal other than a bbq for their family. There was no heater in the camp kitchen, which would have been great seeing as we were in a tent and the weather turned very cold on our first evening. There were no set times for the camp kitchen to be locked at night. (8am - anytime after sunset) We were enjoying a game of pool with people we met in the park and the caretaker came over and gave us 10 mins to finish up, that was about 9pm...This meant we went back to our camp and sat in the cold. The men's shower rosettes were to small and the water hammer was annoying. Not enough shade throughout the park...More trees please. The gate access to the beach was locked around 8.30pm each night...We wanted to go for a walk on the beach at night. Apart from that we were happy...The lush green lawn sites, clean amenities, rates and friendly staff were great...Will consider coming back again.

Thank you for such a comprehensive review Rhonda, we appreciate your comments and recommendation of our Park. We do apologise for the lack of stove top electric burners, however they were removed from the Camp Kitchen due to the fire risk associated with them being left turned on constantly. Also, we do endeavour to explain the current closing times of the Laundry, Camp Kitchen and Beach Gates at check in, as it changes according to demand as the Park occupancy fluctuates. I am sure that had the Duty Manager been aware of your circumstances, he would have arranged to keep the Camp Kitchen open for you. We look forward to your return visit and thank you again for sharing your experience of Christies Beach Tourist Park.

Nice place to stay, close to beach , shops, transport. Clean, fresh, tidy and well maintained. We travel with our dog so had to wait for holiday season to end, then were only allowed to stay for 7 days (why???)
Response from Christies Beach Tourist Park
Thank you for your positive feedback, we are delighted that you enjoyed your week and wanted to stay longer had it been possible. As you would now understand, our Park is very small yet popular and with only certain sites being allocated as pet friendly, we had to design a policy that was fair to all pet owners. The 7 night maximum stay is specified at reservation and again at check in. We are unable to discriminate, so the policy has to be enforced in all circumstances. Hopefully we can welcome you back for another week sometime in the future.

We were getting pretty desperate to find accommodation for our much needed trip to see my husbands brother wife and family who live at Christies beach. They have lived around the area for most of their 50 years in Australia after emigrating from England for a new life down under. We are newcomers to these shores and have lived in Townsville for the past 18months as our three children and grandchildren all live there. It is beautiful in the winter but the summers are so harsh and much to humid for us. We decided at very short notice to visit our Relatives in Christies and booked the flights unfortunately we did not realise that the whole of Adelaide had events going on and the children were on school holidays. Fortunately for us our Adelaide family booked the only cabin available with its sea views and great location even the lodger a huge huntsman could not spoil our amazing three days at Christies park.
