For those who are fascinated by natural marvels, the privately owned Granite Gorge Nature Park is an unforgettable spectacle. It is located just 12 km west of Mareeba on Chewko Road. Like no other place in the world, this awesome landscape stretches as far as the eye can see. Volcanic activity has forced up huge weird boulders shaped into animals. The sheer size of some of these boulders is overwhelming. The rocks form a breath-taking sight stretching out for over a kilometre. We have three walks of 1km each and smaller circuits that will stay in your memory forever.
Vast drops reveal spectacular views of the volcanic rock terrain, softened by the verdant native trees and interspersed with creek beds.

We stayed here for one night in a camper van and have had multiple day trips with various children to feed the wallabies and turtles. On our last trip we camped here for three nights with seven kids and everyone had a fabulous time. The kids enjoyed swimming kayaking and the nature walks. The rock wallabies turkeys chickens and horses would visit our campsite to the delight of the children. The amenities are clean and the the camp kitchens were great. Very friendly and helpful staff. Recommend for anyone with kids.
